Corners Picture Framing, established in 1986, has certainly evolved over the years into the successful business it is today. Initially a small framing shop, it expanded to include a Kodak photo lab and later focused primarily on picture framing with some printing services. This shift allowed Corners to refine its core business, continuously improving its efficiency with the addition of top-of-the-line equipment. Notably, Corners was one of the first frame shops in North America to incorporate a computer-controlled mat cutter, setting it apart from many competitors in the industry.
The personalized approach Corners takes with each artwork is another key strength. By carefully considering the best methods and design for each piece, the shop ensures that each client’s work is framed to the highest standard. As a result, Corners has attracted a loyal customer base, with clients traveling from all over Vancouver Island and beyond to frame their personal artwork.
Before becoming a picture framer, John worked as a logger in Kelsey Bay. He later completed his education as a Certified Engineering Technologist. After finishing school, John traveled the world before returning to Campbell River, where he worked at the local mill to save money for further adventures.
When the mill project came to an end, John decided to stay in Campbell River and explore new opportunities. From 1982 to 1986, he ran a photography studio in the area. During this time, John attended a seminar on picture framing as a favor to a friend. Recognizing that photography and framing went hand in hand, he decided to incorporate framing into his photo studio.
In 1996, John opened Campbell River Custom Framing, which later became known as Corner's Picture Framing. Over the years, he traveled to numerous seminars, learning from some of the best framers in the industry. John earned his Certified Picture Framer (CPF) certification in 1986 and has continued to stay updated on the latest techniques and trends in the framing world.
